Photographer David John Hatwell

I'm David a 24-year-old Ugandan photographer, born in Jinja. I'm passionate about photography and over the last 4 years have been working and assisting photographers and photography projects in the area local to my village Kyabirwa near Bujagali.

I set up the Jinja Photography Experience to share this amazing part of the world with visitors who like to explore with their cameras and see a very local and personal side to town and village life. Many people fear to make the pictures they really want because of language and cultural barriers but during these photo walks we enjoy meeting and sharing time with the people who make these places so special...giving you access to creating the images,  memories, and stories you want to share with family and friends.

how was your experience...

I met David in 2008, then again in 2017 in the years between we had both found a passion for photography and this reconnected us. Within minutes David had my camera around his neck and my complete trust that it would be safe. Over the last 4 years, David has been a vital part of my photography work, both assisting with my lighting (check projects tab) and also locations, translations, and logistics. He is pretty handy as a video man capturing all of the work we do together. We have walked all over the villages and town so when we sit here and launch this page I have complete faith in the experience you will have, the places he will show you, the people you will meet and the photos you will take home...TOMMY 36, ENGLAND.

VILLAGE TOUR. You know everyone what made it very easy and nice to walk around. Your knowledge about plants and nature as well as Uganda is huge. It was very funny and it was probably the best tour I ever had.

The CITY TOUR in jinja: It was interesting, you know the city very well and it was a nice walk, around it. You know where to find good food. I preferred the village tour because I could feel you're proud of your roots and you know every single path. ELIZABETH, 27
